School Nurse

Steph, our full time nurse, is a qualified adult and children’s nurse, with additional qualifications in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing and Health Visiting.  She is a member of Sussex Community Foundation NHS Trusts Children’s Community Nursing Team.

The Special School Nursing role combines public health school nursing with clinical community children’s nursing to support children with SEN, disability, neuro-disability and everyday health care needs to access school regularly.

Steph provides support to students and their families/ carers and is able to liaise between professionals, agencies (health, education and social care) and families to ensure that all the needs of the individual students are met.

A large part of her role is to support the school staff in providing everyday care for students through training and information – for example administration of emergency medications, administration of enteral feeds etc.

Steph also has a public health role and is able to provide support and information around immunisations, growth and development, continence, nutrition, sleep, safeguarding and mental health concerns, as well as any clinical concerns that may affect the students during the school day.
