Sailors

Sailors Class is an Early Years Reception Class aiming to develop each of the pupil’s present skills through individual and group work, working to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum alongside the Cornerstones Curriculum that we follow as a school. We provide a developmental and creative curriculum to enable learning to happen gradually whilst encouraging skills to be transferred to daily life.  All students have individualised ‘Next Steps in Learning’ which are monitored and adjusted regularly to ensure continuous progression. We provide an Individualised and Learner Centred strategy to our teaching in Sailors Class, to ensure that all lessons are accessible and beneficial for our students.

There are three Prime Areas of Learning in The Early Years Foundation Stage that are incorporated within the Classroom provision. These areas are Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development and targets are personalised within these areas to support each student as an individual.

Within the Early Years Foundation Stage there are also four specific areas consisting of; Literacy, Numeracy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. The class is structured around providing opportunities for pupils to learn through play, by way of practical activities and routines that promote learning.

Sailors Class have access to Hydrotherapy sessions, Rebound Therapy and Sensory Drama, we also have weekly Primary Department Assemblies and Drama lessons.

The Sailors Classroom provides an exciting and supportive environment for the children to be continually engaged whilst promoting their natural curiosity and love of learning!
